I’ve said this many times before and I’ll say it again, Chile is one of my favorite places in the world for sauvignon blanc. The style from Chile tends to offer intense tropical fruit flavors and some grassiness. It’s right up there with New Zealand as my two favorite sources of sauvignon blanc.
Serie Riberas is one of the brands owned by Concho y Toro, the largest wine producer in Chile. The name translates to mean “down by the river” and these wines come from vineyards along river banks where the micro-climates have an influence on the vines.
This sauvignon blanc is particularly grassy on the nose. It also reveals some green pepper, pineapple, lemon and grapefruit aromas. It’s quite tart on the palate, offering green apple, grapefruit, peach and lime flavors. The acidity is bright and the mouthfeel is decent. There’s a slight saltiness, along with plenty of citrus flavor, on the finish. It’s an intensely tropical sauvignon blanc.
