Selbach Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett

Selbach Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich

Wow, the name of this wine is a mouthful. Selbach Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett. But a mouthful of this wine is a good thing.

This is a style of riesling I often seek out because I think they go well with food pairings. It’s a “halbtrocken” which translates literally to “half dry” but I often refer to them as “off dry.” If you didn’t look at the label you might think it’s a dry riesling as it’s really only a touch of sweetness that makes it halbtrocken and it’s ever so subtle.

Like many rieslings I love, this one also comes from the Mosel region in Germany, a great source for stellar riesling.

Lemon, honeysuckle, straw and melon aromas give this riesling a very pleasant nose. It has a slight soapiness to it too. The palate is lively, offering tart lemon and granny smith apple flavors along with salty minerals and just a touch of sweetness. The mouthfeel is nice. The finish is fairly long. This is a solid, off-dry riesling.
