I’ve written about many different wines from Concha y Toro. After all, they are the biggest wine producer in Chile and Chile is a great source for good wines at a reasonable cost — bargains, in other words.
Given its size, it’s no surprise that Concha y Toro has several different brands that sell at different price points. The Marques de Casa Concha isn’t the cheapest of their brands, but it’s still a great value. This particular wine has a suggested retail price of $22, but you can likely find it for $20 or less, depending on where you shop.
This chardonnay comes from the Limarí Valley region in Chile, a cool desert climate with an exceptionally long growing season. I noticed this wine is whopping 14.5% alcohol, which is fairly potent for a chardonnay and a result of well-ripened grapes. And the flavor that it delivers is fantastic.
Apple, pear, lemon and nutty aromas give this wine a pleasant nose. The palate is similar, offering plenty of pear and apple flavors with hazelnut flavor showing on the mid-palate. It finishes long with pear, lemon and salty minerals. The mouthfeel is slightly creamy and pleasant. The acidity is good. Overall, this is a very nice chardonnay.
