Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec – Really Nice

Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec

I’ve reviewed a number of Trivento wines in the past. Like many wine producers they have a few different tiers in their portfolio, offering really affordable wines in the lower tier that may not be all that interesting but also having more premium tiers that display a bit more character and quality in the wine. Most of the Trivento wines I’ve reviewed have been from their lower tiers: Reserve or Amado Sur. This one comes from the next tier up, Golden Reserve. And the difference is quite apparent.

Coming from a higher tier it’s also more pricey than the lower tier Trivento Reserve malbec. But it’s also quite a bit better.

When it come to Argentine malbec, there’s a classic aroma and flavor that I’m looking for. Black cherry and plum characteristics are at the heart of that and this wine shows those clearly — and much more.

One of the descriptors that comes to mind is “juicy” which is one of those terms I sometimes dislike. But with this wine it makes sense to me.

There’s a nice depth to the nose of this wine, offering a good range of aromas from spices to fruit. Aromas like plum, strawberry, cedar, black cherry, leather, chocolate and nutmeg all blend together beautifully. The palate is juicy — meaning it’s brimming with intense fruit flavors, mostly black cherry,  plum, strawberry and blackberry. But it doesn’t end there, it also delivers some chocolate and black pepper, particularly toward the finish — which is long. The mouthfeel is nice and the acidity is good. This is a really nice malbec for those who like a big, fruit forward style.

Trivento makes other Malbecs from Mendoza, and I cannot remember one that I have not liked. I will have to be on the lookout for this one.

Hey Chuck. Yes, this is definitely an upgrade from the basic Trivento malbec.
