I’ve been a fan of rosé for several years. I’ll even beat my chest a little bit and say I was ahead of the curve on the recent surge in popularity of rosé.
I’ve previously written that my favorite rosé in the world comes from Tavel. But that’s not to say you can’t get good rosé from other regions. And per usual, Chile comes through when it comes to finding a great bargain.
Rosé can be made from a number of different grapes. This one is made from Syrah grapes. Now you may think of syrah as a red wine, and it is. But the red comes from the skins. Take away the skins and vinify syrah like a white wine and you’ll end up with a rosé. And in the case of this one, a pretty tasty rosé.
The nose is slightly restrained but nice, offering strawberry, raspberry, cherry and lemon aromas. The palate is balanced and refreshing, delivering raspberry and cherry flavors. The acidity is good, making the wine quite vibrant. The mouthfeel is good, giving me a squeaky feeling in my mouth at moments. You know, that feeling you get from squeaky cheese curds. If you’re from Wisconsin you’ll know what I mean and know it’s a good thing. The finish brings lingering cherry and lemon flavors.
