I’m sure regular readers of this website have come to know I’m a big fan of riesling — when it’s good, of course. And I tend to gravitate to German riesling in order to more consistently get good ones. But what about value? I know a big reason folks read this site is to find value. Well you can find that from Germany too and riesling from the Rheingau region is great place to look.
Leitz is the producer of this wine. As far as white wine goes, riesling is all they produce. Like many winemakers, they produce several different tiers of wine — some of those getting rather pricey, but some quite reasonable. The Eins Zwei Dry is their entry-level riesling. And despite being an “entry level” wine, it’s outstanding!
The nose is super floral. We’re talking honeysuckle city. It also reveals some lemon, apple and pear aromas. It’s lovely. The palate delivers tart granny smith apple and pear flavors with stellar acidity. The mouthfeel is nice. The apple flavors linger on the finish for several minutes. This is a fantastic riesling.
